What do you make of these ? It kills me

junglehabitats May 02, 2006 08:32 AM

Ok well Once again the Boa Gods have struck me down ....

Some of you might have seen the babies i posted last year from my genetic striped female there were named "Ahab & Dottie". Well This year she was bred by our Poss Dom Ghost and while he courted her alot I never witnessed ANYTHING from her. She didnt swell or didnt that made any notice in her size She has fed normally and never showed any signs of heat positions etc she was just like a normal female that didnt haver babies. NOT !!
I got in last night to the shop from a material run and was fully expecting a weekend call from my pops who was watching my snakes for me since i have one im expecting this week hopefully. Well as I was checking them all I noticed that my genetic striped female was contracting in her cage , this was around 1 am.Now heres what im not sure on , Being We got him as a Poss Dominant Ghost i WAS EXPECTING TO SEE SOME HYPOS IN THERE RIGHT ? Well all the babies look like GHOST ? the tails have ZERO red to them but have the black outlines. The story goes south from here ..... There are some that are still hanging on the edge but i dont expect them to make it through the morning , they move if touched but show little signs of trying to breath and there are no tounge flicking. Im posting the babies here to see if there is a possibility the ghost could have proven as a super ? therefore had all ghosts/ anery? Im keeping them misted down in hopes they will survive but it doesnt look good at this time ...

Far as i know the female is just a genetic stripe carrier and no anery genetics in her at all .

The Breeding of the two was only action i saw never saw any actual locking up and the only other male with her was my red

BABIES:

From what i can tell these are all Ghosts what do you think of them ?

And from this would this make the ghost a super ?

total count was 10 fully formed / 6 slugs & one mini boa who organs were outside his body and kinked

i am TOTALLY bummed out over these babies ... but being she was not expected to do anything that makes it a little less of a BLOW to the result dramatic. So now I hope the ghost is a super ? to make it better as a result of this litter ?

Mini Boa Pic
this one is beside a 8/32 machine screw 1/2 long

and that is why they look the way they do.

Pigment is the last thing to be produced in development. Premature babies often have a hypo or anery like appearance. In most cases babies this premature don't make it.

Your ghost may be a Super Ghost, but there is not way to be 100% sure with this outcome.

Sorry!

I think they are, but at this point the main thing it's for them to make it.
Keep us posted.
Good luck, hope your day goes well,

My first litter was like that. I almost quit breeding after that experience. Most of my babies were born alive but their lungs were not completely developed yet. So, they died soon after. It was really rough to experience. So, I feel for you.
You have some great looking animals. Try again. The good will outweigh the bad when you have a nice pile of healthy little buggers.
Again sorry to hear that.

Those are pre-mature hypos, that look to have some stripes too. At least you know the stripe gene is there, and if all look like those your probable super ghost is more than likley a super. I had a huge female that had 2 ovulations 3weeks apart last season bred by a DH sunglow male half the litter was full term and the other half was about 3weeks early. The premature hypos in the litter looked just like ghosts and it had me wondering too.

Keep your head up it can only get better from there.
