Got the little guy out now there is a poping nosie coming from his mouth so he as a respiratory infection. Called petland today told them about it they told me to call back at 3:00 when the reptile manger comes in. The temp is 90-95 on the heat side and 80-85 the cool side the humidity is close to 70 just wondering if i got everything set right and do you guys and ladies think they well do something about this petland that is .

well that all depends. if youre worried about the money then you can always ask for a refund. you can also keep the snake and nurse it back to health. check into the store's animal purchase policies. if they assume no liability for condition of animals sold then you are s.o.l. if however they do guarantee then i would advise them of the situation and come to an agreement on what works best for the 3 of you. also, next time you buy from a petstore, try to examine the animal more thoroughly. reputable petstores will not mind letting a person hold the animal they wish to purchase for longer periods of time in order to ensure that the consumer leaves happy.

I agree its probally a respiratory infection, and that your temp and humiity changes are a good thing.

However I also feel you should take your animal to a vet. It may be farther along than you know, at this pont you may need antibiotcs.

A vet visit is really the best thing you can do, Baytrils really not that expensive nor are most Vet fees.

Do the right thing see a Vet. As far as Petland see if the Manager will split the costs, after all he did sell you a diseased animal.
Good Luck

I don't know about you, but I don't have the time to nurse other peoples sick snakes back to health (even if I did, why would I want to?) , I don't like to throw away money, and I don't like to buy problems.

Get a refund, take the money and buy a Captive BRED AND BORN snake from a reputable breed on this site.

You'll save time, money, hassle, headaches, and in the process, make new friends, meet some breeders, and learn some more...

Don't let them catch you or you get caught up with "I didn't notice until I got home" thing...

You were sold a sick snake and deserve a refund... get it.

Best wishes, Bci Joe

Are you sure the boa has an RI? You mentioned the boa's nose looks "rough". Is it in shed cycle??

The reason I'm asking is because........

A few years ago I had a boa that had a simular problem. Every time he would go into shed cycle or had a nose rub, you'd swear he had an RI. I even took him to the vet on 3 seperate occasions. The vet did cultures and every time they came up negative. Then when the little guy shed the problem went away. The vet thought that stress might have caused the symptoms.

He said that an ocassional "pop" when they're in shed cycle could be normal. He said that a boa with a RI will have a rattle in his lungs, that you can actually "feel" when they breath. They'll also have a thick discharge in their mouth as well.

Anyway if the guy is offering you a full refund you should go for it. I don't know if they'll take the snake to the vet if it's sick, but you paid for a healthy boa and you deserve a refund.

i thought we are all here to help preserve and protect snakes, not let them get sick and die because it might cost us a bit of time and money.
