update on baby blizzard rescue & photos

Geckohappy May 02, 2006 12:34 PM

This was taken the day of the rescue, (AFTER eating a couple of squashed crickets)

Today, after less than three days. She already has a fuller looking belly thanks to Marcia's slurry recommended in a previous thread!

and another view - still a long way to go

And in this shot, the internal organs are clearly visible. Is that dark triangle the liver? At first, I thought it was a sign of something seriously wrong like a huge chunk of bark, but now I think it's just a normal organ that is simply large looking in comparison with the critters tiny size and translucency. You can actually see the darker cricket mush lower in the intestine and the fresh lighter colored slurry in the belly.

Hehe! Little bellys looking plumper =) How well is the little guy eating now?

Geckohappy May 02, 2006 02:14 PM

He doesn't really react to crickets or mealworms (when I can find some small enough) but then again, I've been keeping his tummy full with the slurry, so he might just not be hungry enough to care. He backs away and acts like he doesn't want it from the eyedropper, but then he can't help licking it up when it's on his tongue or snout. He goes berzerk when a small chunk of food gets stuck around his mouth - he really hates that! He's pretty active, and he does come out to get drinks from his water dish. I swear an average sized praying mantis could kick his ass, but I still think there's a chance he'll pull through

Thanks for asking!

I really hope so, he's really cute. So he just stays in his hide all day? What about night?

He moves around as much or more than the older geckos I have. I will look over and see him in different locations, or find a little poo in the corner... yesterday he fell asleep leaning over the edge of the water dish with one arm down propping himself up... I moved him so he wouldn't fall in! I only keep a tiny bit of water in there just so he doesn't drown.

What a cutie! I've been following your story and I knew the slurry would help him out, I have a lot of faith in that stuff. I sometimes add some liquid vitamins and electrolytes to mine, too. And the reaction you're getting sounds about right, lol, mine do the same thing. He/she looks great, I'm happy for both of you!
