egg hatched- need advice please

BELLABALLPYTHON May 02, 2006 04:19 PM

This is my first egg. I am so thrilled! It popped his head out yesterday. The Barkers tape said to leave them in the egg for 24 hours. It;s been that long & he still hasn't come out.
Should i take him out ? I have a shoebox ready for him with moist paper towell. I don't want to do anything wrong.
Thanks,
Beth

It's normal for them to stay in their eggs for a few days after pipping, they are still absorbing the yolk sac and should remain in the egg until this is complete. I believe most of mine exit the egg about 1-2 days after pipping. So 24 hrs isn't too long.

First, congrats! Now, don' worry too much. They will come out when ready and if you disturb them, they may stay longer. It will come out soon enough.

Thank you Tom & Jay. I am less worried now. I did make a larger slit across the top of the egg. He had made a hole big enough for his whole head to stick out.
I bought a gravid WC to try out the egg process before i breed my snakes next season. She had 7 eggs but just this one stayed viable.
What an amazing sight! I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing that head pop out for the first time.
Thanks again....... Beth
