I have noticed over the pat few days that my Jackson Xano is not drinking very much, eyes have began to look a little sunken, and when he gapes I can see what appears to be saliva stretching from top to lower jaw. I have made a vet appointment. I think it maybe URI. Could this be so? If so what are the treatments that I should be looking for from the vet? His appetite has been pretty good the entire time. He is active, basks for a large portion of the day and really moves around alot from about 5-8pm.

Does anyone have expereince with diagnosed URI?

His new cage 24x24x36 will be here tomorrow.

Currently in an ESU fresh air habitat all screen.
Feeding Crickets, Silks, Some wax and some mealworms.
Basking temp is about 85
Ambient temp is about 75
Humidity is from 50-75%

He is misted by an automatic mister several times a day
He has an ultrasonic humidifier
He has a dripper.

Thanks

Remember, I'm not a vet...just speaking from what I have learned/read/etc. I've never had a chameleon with a URI, but I did have one that came to me with a dandy sinus infection.

Its hard to tell without seeing him, but I think I read that the saliva can become more mucus-like/ropey when the chameleon is dehydrated.....and dehydration goes along with the eyes sinking in too...but I'm glad you are taking him to the vets because I would suspect that something else is going on too. I think that if its a URI the saliva is more foamy3 than ropey. How are the soft pads on the top of his head....protruding or sunken?

A URI would be treated with antibiotics; culture of the infection, if possible; temperatures kept in the warm end of the Jackson's normal range....and if he's dehydrated he might get some fluids injected too.

You don't mention using a full spectrum light, including UVB on your Jackson's or whether he gets direct sunlight...or gutloading/dusting insects.

Hope all goes well at the vets....please post when you return.
