Eastern Hognose Question . . .

BlueKing May 02, 2006 05:48 PM

Does a melanistic (black), Eastern hognose carry that dominant gene, or will some of its' babies come out looking normal/patterned when bred? Just wondering . . . Thanks,

Zee

Right now it looks like any clutch of easterns can have melanistic babies in them... the babies actually look normal but as they get older they gradually turn dark. I don't think any specific breeding trials have been done to compare rates of normal parents producing melanistic offspring versus melanistic parents producing them.
