I built a rat rack!! ~ Proud of myself, can ya tell?!?

JM May 19, 2003 05:41 PM

It's only got 4 levels, the top level is additional tubs for easier tub cleaning. I made it smaller on purpose so I could put wheels on it and wheel it in and out of the house, from room to room or wherever without much effort. I can't beleive I built it........and it works!! It's even reasonably straight! LOL!! I'm gonna build another later this week (Now that I have an idea how to do it I'm feeling more confident!) but the next one will have the levels a bit closer together and have 5 levels.

cement mixing tubs.. very nice!

all you need is an auto-watering system and you are all set! (goto http://www.agselect.com for autowatering systems)

what ratio you running in those tubs? 1.4? 1.5? 1.6?

best of luck..

Right now they only have 1.3 in them as that is what I had in the rubbermaid tubs I had been using, but they look big enough to easily support 1.4, or even 1.5 if you don't let the pups get too big before harvesting them.

I couldn't tell for sure by looking at the pics. I was wondering if it is 1/4" screen are the rats having any problems feeding??

You can't see it in the pic, but there in the front where the feed is I have cut out a few of the wires to create 1/2" squares about every 2 inches. I built one of the levels last week and had a colony live in it for the week, they did not seem to have any trouble figuring out where the food was, or how to get it.

Way Cool. You could even put an automatic watering system on that top space and everything would be self contained.
