My next door neighbor just brought this over and gave it to me. Its Herptivite with Beta Carotene Multivitamins by Rep-Cal. Can this be used with geckos? If not can it be used with any reptile? I have torts, snakes, beardies, geckos and a Basilisk. Thanks, Deb

Yes, it can be used.... Infact it is made especially for reptiles.... Although I am not into color enhancing supplements, herptivit is safe to use and is a good supplement....

The Beta Carotene is actually in place of Vit A as some can use to much and cause over dose when Vit A is in the supplement, so they added Beta Carotene in place of Vit A since there is some Vit A properties in it and its not enough to enhance color( I wish), I'd like a tan but I can't seem to eat enough....Just kidding Anyways the main reason I ask was because there is Phosphorus in it at 1.1% so thats the main reason I asked. If its OK then I will use it. Any more thoughts are welcome and appreciated!!!! Thanks a Bunch Gecko Gang, Deb PS do you think I need to add color to these geckos? I just love them the way they are!

Those leos do not need any color enhancement...LOL... They are awesome.... What you dont want is a calcium supplement with phos.....

Side note.... It is very hard to od on a water soluable vit like vit A

Greg, I was reading what the Herptivite says on it: Herptivite is the first vitamin without vitamin A. Instead, we use Beta Carotene which is a anti-oxidant that is converted into Vitamin A, in a regulated way so there is no threat of vitamin A toxicity. So then because there is Phosphorus in it, it can't be used on ANY Reptile? If not why did they make it and how can they sell it without mentioning it isn't to be used on Reptiles? Just would like to know if anyone knows..... Thanks Deb PS should I throw it away?

it can be used but its not the best...I hear leopard geckos have a little trouble converting the beta carotene to vitamin A. Although it is safer than other products I hear osteoform is the best .. its the stuff ron tremper uses from what I heard. If any one knows of a good supplier I would be interested in hearing it. I too use rep-cal but want to switch. Osteoform isnt exactly common at the pet shops.

Hi There, I use Osteoform but I get it from my friend Fred Bruckman of Bruckman Reptiles. I just called him about it on Friday and he says he gets in on the internet. I will find out where in a day or so. Hes at the Columbus Show today. Anyways I just didn't want to throw out this Herptivite if it could be used. But I will still use the osteoform most of all. if you could let me know that would be so great... the herptivite should work well with your dragons and some of the other pets. I personally would used it with the multivitamin powder to dust crickets for all the animals and use osteoform in a calcium dish.
