Looking for a female

waspinator421 May 03, 2006 06:23 PM

I am looking for a female thayeri that I can breed with my male next spring. So she would probably need to be an '04 or older. Some thing like a white or yellow leonis, or something similar is preferred.

Anyone know where I can look? I've been checking the KS classifieds periodically, but nothing strikes me.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Keep checking the classifieds and check with the major breeders and you should eventually find something. Lone females are hard to find (you often have to buy a male/female pair to get a female) and adult animals are harder to find and more expensive than juveniles. Remember someone had to go through the trouble and cost of raising that snake for years. That being said, you should eventually find what you're looking for. Good Luck.

this guy has great variables but they get picked through quickly after hatch season.

Haha, yeah. That's where I got my male from! I probably should have picked up a female while I was at it, but I think they might be all siblings. I'll have to have a closer look.

Thanks anyway!

Getting an adult/sub-adult female is going to be a tall order. Maybe after breeding season. Expect to pay a bit more for a female or you may need to buy a pair.

As far as yellow check with Mike Bodner in the fall. I may have some yellow hatchlings too. Vivid is another possibility and if Russ Bates remaining three produce good eggs he may have some also. John Lassiter's big yeller will also probably produce some yellow too. Good luck

Something to think about too is many females "gray up" as they age. Not all, but a majority. So, if you are looking for a nice 2003-2004 female she will likely be less "stunning" than a baby would be. With experience, you can tell an older female that was probably a show stopper as a baby but may not be now; but if you buy from one of the breeders here, they will not lead you astray. A really nice looking two or three year old female that held her color will probably not be for sale. If you don’t find an older one now, I know there will be some awesome babies available from the breeders here this summer.
