Sorry this is going to be a bit long, but I need to know if I should be concerned, or if I just have a little boy (we were told our rhino was female as a hatchling, but I know that isn’t very accurate)!

Basically, last night when I was petting my 1 1/2 yr old rhino ig, I had my head down a bit and to the side. I noticed that at her vent there was what looked like pink exposed flesh (it was about the size of a dime and not really protruding, but almost just in place of what is usually just a fold (you know what I mean). I panicked a bit thinking she injured herself somehow, but when I rechecked her 5 min later it was back to normal. I have a feeling I saw her (his) hemipenes just before it retracted.

I have looked on line, and have seen many examples of male vs. female as far as green igs go, but nothing for rhinos. She does not have large pores under her legs, but she is only 1 1/2 which is why I was kind of surprised to see any signs of sexual maturity if that is what I saw. Her tail is wide at the base and does seem to have the signature slight bulge, but no large pores under her legs as I said. I don’t know if that is true of rhino males as it is with greens, and she/he is just too young still, or if I should be concerned that what I saw was something else.

P.S.- Appetite has been way up lately, and so has growth rate. She has been very active too, and knocking over her hides and things which is why I was initially afraid she had been injured.

Thanks for any input!
