HELP Male bitting Female

chas19 May 03, 2006 09:13 PM

I just got a pair of geckos at a reptile show and I have them together 1 male and 1 female leopard gecko. They have been doing good for a few weeks she just had a shed the other day and I have now noticed that she has little cuts all over her. The only thing I guess is he is bitting her is this normal can anyone help thanks.

Is there anything that could be cutting her within the cage? Sharp edges of cut plastic containers, splinters on a log, jagged rock, etc?

no I dont see anything in her cage the have a hide, and moist hide, water dish, calcium dish, mealworm dish. Nothing sharp the male has no marks on him at all the only thing I can think of is that he is nipping at her. I just dont know if I should leave them together I dont want to see he get a infection or something

Another question...are you sure that they're sexed correctly? Not too uncommon for people to buy a "female" and then notice two little bulges at the base of the tail after half a year or so.

yea I asked the guy 3 times at the show they are adults.

I would say they're breeding. I never saw my male biting my female but she had bites all over her. So I separated them and now I have 3 babies with more eggs ready to hatch, of course that's what I was hoping for. If her cuts are bad you should try to help her out, but I think it's time to get her out of there.

Geckos are good healers. As long as you keep the cage clean, she wont get infected. And I agree, it sounds like breeding.
