Corn won't eat, advice needed

brianz May 04, 2006 08:32 AM

Ever since my 5-year old corn was shipped to me when I moved across country, he won't eat. It's been nearly 5 weeks now, and he is getting noticeably skinnier. All he does is try to escape his cage (the exact same cage) during the day, and when I've fed him rats in his feeding tank (again the same feeding tank), all he does is try to escape that too. He has no interest, and doesn't even seem to notice, the rat. The rats are the same size as always, small adults. This is a big corn - 5 feet long and nearly 1 kilogram.

What else can I do to interest him in eating??? I'm getting worried.

Thanks,

Brian

OK, what i have been told to do to help a snake eat after being shipped, is to offer a fairly small prey item, it might be a good idea to maybe try a hopper mouse just to see if he will take that, just a bit of advice, hope your big guy gets back to eating, good luck!

It is breeding time, so if you are sure it is male, he may just doing the normal male breeding time behavior. What you think of him trying to escape, is probably him trying to a mate. The only problem is, if he gets too skinny, it is definitely something to be worried about. I have noticed my males eat best right after adshed. Try offering a different sized/type meal. I had a couple of my males not eat for longer than normal. I threw a live mouse in with (one wouldn't take anything - even live - until after shed) and they both ate.
If its a female, try all the feeding tricks that you would on a hatchling corn that won't eat.
Good luck
