To things about this post, one is, this is an attempt at a quick fix at housing ackies. A very nice one too. My fear is people ask about it, yet they do not ask if it has worked for its intended purpose. You can house ackies or any monitor in all sorts of cages from trashcans to washing tubs(plastic sinks with legs from home depot and lowes and others) The problem is, this is an adult pair, which means breeding is the goal. This is were quick fix cages fail.

Next, no one can tell you what wattage you can use, as your not seeking wattage, but your seeking to allow certain temps.

Wattage does indeed create heat, but the type of bulb and more effect how much heat. Then its more important to understand the conditions. That same cage would use a diffferent wattage if kept in the garage or higher on a shelf. Or in a different room. Muchless a different type of cage. Or a different distance from where the monitor goes.

Then its very important to understand the type of monitor your working with. For instance, that bulb puts a lot of heat in a small area, that works well for ackies. But ackies are little and can heat their entire body in that area. Savs are much bigger, even if the same lenght. Larger monitors tend to burn the crap out of themselves with this type of bulb. With bulkier monitors, you want to use several lite fixtures with lower wattage. This gives a bigger hot area, one that fits the mass of a Sav. I hope you understand this, Cheers

The goal is breeding. "Keep'em hot and feed'em a lot". For breeding purposes, what should the temperature range be? What should be the lowest temps on the cool side? Thanks

Also, see looks quite large already, she may already be gravid. I don't know. What are typical behaviors of ackies that are about to lay eggs? Should I offer a seperate nesting container, or keep on eye in the dirt of the enclosure?

So many questions,,,,such little time.....

Thanks

Hello
It is 45 watts. But I think I need to get a higher wattage. The temps on the other side are to low. They are 78. I would like to keep them about 83.
