iguana front leg problem (need help)

bogdan May 04, 2006 07:13 PM

i would start by saying at least ..hello to all the dedicated people here who understand and apreciate life in all it's aspects..
secondlly i wish to apologize for my bad english and the long, maybe borring post..

i live in romania and for start this isn't the best place to have an iguana.. no vet support, no people with experience in reptiles and obiously no pet stores or very few of them to sell reptiles in general, iguanas in particular.. i have loved reptiles since i know myself.. i was bitten by wild snakes when i was 9yrs old and my parents hated these animals so much since then.. but i'll carry the "crush" for reptiles for all my life.
i've allways wanted to have an iguana, it's the most "common" reptile you can find in the few romanian pet shops who sell anything else but cats and dogs and..so on.. it's sad because..altrought they are indeead very beautifull , iguanas aren't in any case the ideal pets for most people.. i've studied and read 4 yrs about these reptiles.. first on the internet and then i've tried to buy books over the internet.. it was pretty chalenging because at that time few companies sent orders to romania.. it took me 4 months but i've done it.. i couldn't buy an iguana because at that time you couldn't find a uv light source anywhere in romania..
but here's the situation now.. a friend of mine had an iguana for 2 years but he didn't care propperly of it.. it hurt me to simply watch this, so i've managed to "rescue" the iguana for some money.. this happened a week ago.. i took it because otherwise i don't know what would the future bring to the poor animal.. there aren't people willing to adopt iguanas here, except only for the curriosity to have an exotic animal.. but it's still the same with my friend.. i took the igg hoping to change something.. 1year ago i managed to buy a laptop witch i sold it now to raise money fast to quicly accomodate the reptile.. i made a cage, bought a heating instalation , the uv bulbs should arrive 3 days from now, and hopefully i will find a vaporisator for air humidity.. the iguana is verry small compared to it's age .. it haves aprox 22 inches head to tale. i didn't seen any external skin problems, no infections, but i'm pretty shure it's suffering some form of MBD because she (it's a female) didn't have any uv lighting and her diet was incorrect. 3 days ago i went with the iguana outside because it was verry sunny (will help much untill uv lights come) and i found a good place for it near some grass.. it appeared pretty happy untill at some moment she refused to use her right front limb and drag it as if it was dead.. other then that no change, she eats regularry, no color or mood changes..nothing.. since she refused to use the front limp a swell appeared on it as with humans when they have fractured limbs.. yesterday she began using her toes altrought she still can't use the arm and today she can move the arm a little. however i'm verry scared because i fear the worst, not knowing it's past.. vets ar difficult to find.. i haven't found anyone here so my last chance is a trip to Bucharest, the capital city of Romania. i haven't find anything on web/phone about vets there but i must try.. however it's a 9hours way into.. unknown.. so what do you sugest i do? what special precautions to take when carrying the iguana on such long distance.. and in general what could had happened with the front limb? the iguana didn't fell or injure itself.. it was a flat, clear place with grass on it..
please help me.. i'm verry scared.. is it a possible treatment i should try before i find a vet or..if i don't..
altrought we romanians ar poor i'll sell whatever it needs to raise money for treatment.. they are simply objects.. the iguana deserves a second chance!!
any help is apreciated! ..here is my email adress if it's needed "frecbassumaibinecatine@yahoo.com"
