You only have one problem you both lack data! Michael only has one orange snake and it is wild caught. I have been to his house and seen his entire collection even the snakes at his friends house. Dusty you also lack data you have a picture of one orange snake so where do you get your data all these snakes that keep getting oranger? You only have a picture of one and it is not all that orange I could even quote your wife from your Blog.

Hey Bill...

Yes, you have been to my house and seen the collection. But I have caught (and obtained) SEVERAL orange subocularis since you have been here (what was that, 1999 or 2000?) In fact, the really nice orange one that you keep referring to is (technically) a River Road animal... but not from an area where the orange or golden ones come from typically, nor does it hold a candle to some of the other orange animals that have been not only collected but produced in my collection. To randomly say that I am basing all of my information on one specimen is totally ridiculous...

Again, and let me repeat AGAIN, I am not saying diet cannot influence coloration. Do I believe that it can? Sure! But I don't have the statistical data to back it up... and from the numbers and photos that you have shown thus far, neither do you. What I do have is a group of animals that ARE bright orange (yes, I have obtained more in the past 5 years!), that feed on nothing but mice from the Mouse Factory, and who produce orange babies that obtain more orange as they get older, thus showing on a small (but still larger than yours! LOL!) sampling that genetics plays a more significant role than diet...

Anyway, feel free to come back through on the way to the Gap this year, would love to show you the Center and the collection.

Happy herpin'...

Do you still have the lemon yellow Peppers Hill animals? They were hands down my favorite. I think you had some Blonde Yellow if I remember correctly. The hets are doing well I got from you although the wild old breeder male blond died I will be out your way around June 23. I have four orange and one nice one from river road. I think the last time I was out your way was 2002 mut my mind is starting to go. Oh well I can still see a Bogie in the road. LOL If you can't see a Bogie in the road it is time to hang it up...........Bill
