Bad breeding result, why?

This year I tried to breed my hondos, both from 2001. Three sheds after brumation they started breeding. There breeding resulted in four slugs and one fertile. The fertile egg died a couple of weeks into incubation.
What could have gone wrong, could it been because they where to young?

How large is the female? I don't breed Hondurans until the female is 36 inches. It usually takes 3 years to reach that size. I think you probably rushed it by a year. IMHO
