Looking for a green anaconda...

rahl1972 May 05, 2006 02:22 PM

I don't even know where to start to look to find a tame green. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

To start with, you'll want a true captive "bred and born" ideally from the responsible breeder. Kelly Haller may still have animals you might be interested in...in any event, he'll be able to point you in the right direction. Stand by; you've asked the right question in the right forum. Good luck.

I highly recommend contacting Kelly Haller. He and his partner, Jud McClanahan, breed an extremely tame line of green anacondas. These snakes are not just tame for anacondas, but tame for any snake. I had the good fortune of getting one of their males about two years ago and he is the tamest snake I have owned or ever worked with. The only one of my 34 constrictors that I take out free hand with no use of a hook I am getting a female this year. Bill.

True! They are wonderful animals. I have one of Kellys' males from 2003 and he is very sweet and meek.
Recommeded!

Thanks for all of the feedback. You have all been very helpful. I still haven't been able to track one down but I think I'm on the right track and you have all given me a good start. I did see the 12 ft "tame" female that is currently on the kingsnake classifieds but I think the price tag on that one is a bit high. Not to mention....I'm not thinking I want to start out with one quite that big. Anyway..thanks again to everyone.
