Locality help!

nerthin May 06, 2006 04:47 PM

The first picture is of one of my female red tails. When I purchased her I was told she was a surinam but I have my doubts.

This second image is of my male that I was told was a columbian.

Lastly there is this little fella that I purchased from a local breeder and she really had no idea what he was.

If anyone has any idea what kind of localities these are that would be great. I just really do not want to interbreed the snakes if they are of different localities.

The first two appear to be correct. The third looks like a BCI most likely Colombian but there is no way to be 100% positive.

The first snake is a BCC. I would say Guyanan though, not Suri. The second looks like a Colombian cross. Heavy Honduran influence. And the third boa looks all Colombian. Again, just my opinion.

actually, there really isn't a difference between the suriname and guyana localities. it is a political border only between suriname and guyana. there is a complete history on the debate on boa-constictors.com.

I realize and understand all of that. That being said and the controversy being brought to light, there are still two types of BCC phenotypes in the industry for that locality. One look will still be considered a classic Suriname look, and another a classic Guyanan look. That snake possesses a classic Guyanan look. Again, just my opinion. These two "types" of boas have been around far too long to just fade into the background. There are also detailed descriptions for both "localites". Even if we made that region one big country, there would still live a Suriname type BCC and a Guyanan type BCC.

Ok, if you think there is a 'suri type' and a 'guyana type', what are they?

Boas from Guyana and Suriname are phenotypically indistinct.
