Albino Pacman color change

kelz0429 May 06, 2006 06:08 PM

I have done quite a bit of research on horned (pacman) frogs, but the frog I just got today is worrying me a bit.

He is an albino Pacman, but his color, since I have place him on a bed of moistened green moss, seems to be changing to a light green where his yellow color used to be. I did not know these frog's were equipped to camoflauge themseleves.

Is this normal or do I need to worry? Thank you very much for your help!

I don't think that it's anything to worry about. Most frogs can lighten or darken themselves to help match the color of their substrate. I'd guess that if you kept it on a light substrate, it'd change back to a yellower color.

Is it otherwise acting normally?

i dont know about albinos but normal colour horned frogs can turn from quite green dominant when young to very dark if kept on a dark substrate, only some seem to do this though so it may be that they would have turned dark anyway.

I have noticed that my frog, although mostly albino, has some light green mixed in. My guess is maybe albino is sort of a blending trait that might take in some other colors in pacman frogs. i have no idea.
