Santiago is now eating 2 3.00$(50-100 grams each) rats a week and 2 kiwiis and 2 apricots a week . To get him to eat the fruit I now blend 1 hasrd bioled egg with water in my food processer, Then I dip them in the egg. This is great ,becuase I can give him the optimal diet . See ya .Russ

My red will eat whatever you put in front of it...canned mixed fruit, pineapple, Chili's mashed potatos, crickets, superworms, earthworms, f/t pinks, fuzzies, live pink, fuzzies, small adult mice.

My red/blue cross picks on everything. They both go into a feeding frenzy over a handful of mice/rat pinks and fuzzies. I didn't know tegus could fly. If they think food is "getting away" they can really leap.

I like the quote...what book is that from??? I've seen it before and can't remember where.

Do they ever get tired of certain foods? Mine will not eat rodents for some reason...and unfortunately I have a freezer full

From what I remember about your tegu is is very large, obviously full grown (how old is he?). When he was 1 year old, how much did he eat (approximately)...sorry for all the questions, it's just that all of a sudden my tegus want insects and worms and all along they have been eating chicken and quail....it's so strange....

Ok thats what i thought you ment:

As of right now he's im not feeding him any live or whole animals. he has in the past eaten a couple of mice. now im sticking more to anything i can easily get on a dish. turky, egg, deer meat, hamburger, fruits, vegetables, even pizza- might sound unhealthy but with such a veriety its ok. sea ya

Squisy, my Paraguayan b/w (approx. 25" TL) eats every day and it's usually either a golf ball sized ground turkey meatball (fortified with Rep-Cal and Herptivite), or a f/t adult mouse as the staple. Fruits are also offered 2-3 times a week and her favorite is definitely mango. She also likes bananas, cooked, mashed sweet potato and strawberries. I haven't tried much else in the fruit/veggie department. She also likes turkey cat food (offered very occasionally as a treat) and crickets. It's fun to put her out on the floor and toss the crix to her and watch her chomp em down. My 5 year old daughter gets a big kick out of it. So far she hasn't been very picky, but definitley seems to like the ground turkey the best.

Nivea a.k.a. "Baby Girl" is a "baby" red that eats about 5-6 Adult mice a week, cherries, reptomin, the occasional finch or canary, wellness canned dog food and pretty much anything else And she's only about 26 inches. HER favourite seems to be de-pitted cherries...scuse the expression, but she goes APE-SH*T for them!!! She'll eat a dozen in a sitting if I let her. Hope that helps.

My 4 foot and growing male will eat about 5 adult mice per day or 4 chicks. My female that's a little over 3 foot will eat about 1 adult mouse per day or 5 quail chicks. Mussels are their favorite food.

how old are the quail? I have seen one day up to adult. tried the mussels but they seemed to like feeder fish better....I remember you saying they didn't like the mussels that much at first either so I'll try again soon

Just the day old quail. I'm afraid to feed her a regular chick cuz I don't want her to choke on it. She's like 38-39 inches long I think. Speaking of that I'm a little curious on how big your B&W is and have you been feeding regular chicks? Have you been feeding those 90.00 - 170.00 gram Guinea Pigs!?
I'm probably just too overly protective with them. If I could just hear someone say they feed their 3 foot tegu regular chicks it would save me some trouble and money.
Oh btw my male eats a little over 15 mussles were my female eats 3 or 4 per daily/feeding.

>>Just the day old quail. I'm afraid to feed her a regular chick cuz I don't want her to choke on it.

I have been successfully feeding all sizes, but they like the week old the best(as far as quail). But they have eaten an adult.
They will not choke, because as you can read on bert's site they will eat an adult turkey a little at time. The thing is though...it's better for them to eat the whole thing....bones and all...more complete nutrition. Have you tried gizzards?

>> Have you been feeding those 90.00 - 170.00 gram Guinea Pigs!?

I have them in the freezer....I'll let you know how it goes
I want them to get a little larger...with the way they grow it should be soon !
