revised price guide for 2006...

rwoodyer May 07, 2006 05:53 PM

for the overly optimistic.

I have realized now, that I might be able to influence prices all by myself, just by a kingsnake forum post, so I have revised the price guide for this summer. Follows...

Morph Male Female
pastel 20000 40000
mojave 30000 50000
spider 10000 20000 (females were really undervalued, look at all the combos!!)
lesser priceless (you'd better have an ancient art relic to trade)
cinny 25000 25000
banana you'd better sell your house, wife, and kids
O.ghost 5000 10000
albino 3000 8000
clown (unfortunately this will be the only morph to drop in price this year, I know, I know, but something has to drop and I dont have any clowns yet...so 4000 and 5000)

for all other recessives, simply take the current market price and mutiply by 2.5 x because production is going down and demand is going way up!!

If you do not follow this price guide "consequences will be created and enforced" (not really)

disclaimer: when I buy animals I am not subjected to this price guide, only when I
sell them.

It makes me feel uncomfortable. "The market" should be treated like the mafia. We just don't talk about it. Let it be what it is. Makes everything so tacky. Isn't it better to have a passion for something and really enjoy your hobby/craft? Instead of always dwelling on what your collection is worth at every given moment. I wonder if baseball card collectors try to foresee what Hank Aaron's rookie card will be worth in August too. I kinda doubt it.

morphkingreptile May 07, 2006 06:32 PM

... Everyone just needs to chill out and realize that the market is much larger than just kingsnake. And that this forum is not the end all as some might think. Don't get me wrong I love the forum and what it stands for but Lesser platinums obviously don't make mojaves.. LOL That is the real deal.

THe way I see it, this is all a big joke. I get a kick out of it. In the end it doesn't influence anybody. Kinda like politics.
The market will do whatever it pleases in the end and everyone will sell their stuff accordingly, no matter what anybody says or thinks.

That was the point of the price guide post in the first place...sorry if that was lost on anyone.

People have been complaining from day one, the first time I read anything on this forum (years ago) and nothing has changed since.

Maybe there should be a separate forum heading for market discussions.

Peace

Maybe there should be a separate forum heading for market discussions.

There's already a separate sub-forum for market discussions. I'm not sure why these discussions don't occur on that forum, but people seem to enjoy posting them here. They are amusing, so I don't mind.

BTW, I hope the revised price list is only for snakes that have already been converted to f/t feeding. LOL Otherwise, I'll only pay the prices on your first list.

It's not how many snakes you have. It's how happy and healthy you can keep them.

cole2006 May 07, 2006 06:59 PM

There is a sub forum? Didn't realize, thanks.

Why don't moderators move posts to that sub forum then? After all, they do seem to do a great job keeping up with the posts that go on here.

There is a sub forum? Didn't realize, thanks.

It's amazing what we can see just by looking. The subforums are up on the main page just below the ball python picture.

It is funny how people think that the market is crashing, yet you still don't see many of the big breeders on the KS BP forum. There couldn't possibly be a demand great enough that people are seeking out breeders? That is just wierd to think about! LMAO

rwoodyer May 07, 2006 07:08 PM

When I go to my local electronics shop and see that the MP3 player I wanted last year is only half the price and I can afford it now, I don't scream running out of the store yelling

"THE ELECTRONICS MARKET IS CRASHING"

"THE ELECTRONICS MARKET IS CRASHING!!!!!!!!"

run to my house gather up all my electronics package them and sell them before the market crashes.

Instead, I simply realize it is a fact of life that when things first come out they are expensive and the price steadily decreases every year. As more and more of them are made and competition increases, they simply get cheaper. No crash, I never said there would be free ball pythons anymore than I think there will be free MP3 players, just cheaper ones...

It doesn't matter if several of the largest companies try to maintain the prices high, better and more efficient competitors will replace them if they do not follow the market. It is called capitalism and it is the way markets work...at least in the free world.

These are living animals. Simple Reccessive are really hard to make in numbers. Now twice as many people want them in a big way as soon as they can get them. Prices are going up on that stuff. We can't produce it fast enough. These people will see really fast if they sell there pied females for 2k. Now I am done commenting on this which is going no where. If all the big breeders are selling pieds for even 2500 this year for a nice pied you can call me out publicly on this forum. Not little guys but big guys. People that produce alot of homozyogus animals. The guy that makes 3 doesn't really have an effect on the market at all. I have no problem with it. I don't think it is going to happen on a regular bassis. I know it isn't..

Its really hard to produce them in big numbers?

All the respect in the world to pete, but he has more than most breeder have snakes.

Lots of people make albinos in huge numbers. The first step (of 12 or something) is overcomming denial. If pieds are still selling for 3000 or more after this years hatchlings, you can call me out publically, or better yet, I'll send you a case of beer and we'll celebrate together...lol.
I'll admit that pieds are a bit of a special case since homoxhomo breeding has been a little bit slower, but they can still be made easily by breeding het females. Heck I can buy 10 het females and one male and produce 15 pieds in one year, plus another 7 or so het females. What is hard about that?
