pachytriton: sick and dying

anurotic May 07, 2006 07:20 PM

hey all...

i have a pachytriton (paddle tail) that is at least 2 years old, but how old, i am not sure (got from someone who had it for a few years, etc). anyhow, it was originally a pair, but the other died about a month ago. now this one appears to be dying. how do i know? it is barely moving. the other day it was levitating in the water (water is 3 inches) and i figured it was dead, so i bagged it to put in the freezer to make a specimen of. anyhow, after i bagged it, i noticed it slightly moving its head. so, i put it back. 3 days later, it is still in this condition.

any ideas?

nothing has changed in its enviroment, except i added some ammonia removing rocks to the filter along with the charcoal. the diet since ive had it has been mainly rosy minnows, with occasional crickets...though i never see them go for the crickets. ive tried brine shrimp and also worms, but they never went for things that didnt move fast, and i always had to pull the other things out after they died and began to decompose.

anyhow, i know they should live longer than the 4??? years that they seem to be plateauing out at.

feedback would be nice.

Thanks Russ...but I found him/her dead today. Wish I knew what it was that killed him/her and the other one that died last week.
