Freshly molted Superworms

Beardie01 May 07, 2006 09:56 PM

Hi, I have B & B Worm Farm, I rasie Mealworms and superworms. My ? is I know that Mealworms are not to good for your beardie and superworms are alittle better but not great. Crickets are the best. The bad rap about superworms are the chiten, but when they are freshly molted thier is none, all meat. Could I feed my Dragons freshly molted superworms that are all white instead of crickets and would they be just as healthy? I feed them greens every day also. Bubba

Just from my personal experience, I have kept and bred bearides for about 5 years now and have never had a problem feeding superworms to my beardies (freshly molted or not). Being as superworms are very easy to keep and reproduce, we have always picked these as our food of choice and our beardies love them. all of ours are nice and fat, healthy, and very active (as beardies go). By no means would I consider myself an expert, but feeding superworms to my beardies as well as different veggies and greens has always worked very well for me. Hope this is helpful and good luck with everything.

Superworms are fine for adult bearded dragons, molted or not. However feeding the newly molted ones would be good as it does cut down the amount of indigestable chitin to pass. Superworms, however should only be fed sparingly as they are fairly high in fat. A dozen or so a week is more than enough.

I personally feel no bearded dragon should be fed just a single king of insect, but receive as much a variety of insects as they do greens. Crickets, silkworms, butterworms, superworms, hornworms, various species of roaches and a few waxworms and mealworms should all be offered.
