Can a blue tail and a dumeril's breed?

kavo44 May 08, 2006 12:36 AM

I know this sounds ridiculous but I have a dumerils and a blue tail moonitor, both about 38in, in the same tank and I believe they are opposite sex. I had no intention of breeding these animals, they were in the same tank for a space issue. I noticed the monitors doing what appeared to be breeding but I couldn't get a clear look to see if anything was going on. Is this possible or are my monitors just acting weird?

a Bluetail is, V.doreanus, and dums is V.dumerili. You cross them and you will have to call the babies, V.dumanus, hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Better come up with a different name.

I do wonder why you would ask if they can breed, after seeing them breed. You could ask if babies could come from this. I imagine its possible. But because its not been done before, there is no answer. Get eggs first, then incubate them. Then the answer will come. Cheers

Please get some eggs and hatch them. I want first dibs on a couple of them.
A dumanus would fit in perfectly at my house.
I would then have company.

Welcome back Scott, I hope all is going well for you.

About Dumanus monitors, I have a whole bunch of them now, hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Sometimes monitors seem extremely smart other times, they are V.dumanus's

Cheers

Iv tryed it and got many copulation but no eggs, eventualy the male doreanus became too big for the little dum female. the problem with large dore-anus is they become anal with subordinates.
