My RES is about 13 years old. The red spots on his head faded to almost nothing over the last 5 years or so. Is this common? If not, what could be the cause of it? Thanks!

This is a common trait (especially among males) as they get older.

How rare are black male res? I know that not all old males turn black (I have a 60yr old male that is still really vibrant) but i'm wondering how often the melanistic res are seen?? A friend of mine just caught one that appears to be losing its color. The red markings are now green and the shell and plastron are completely black.
