Question for Hybrid Breeders.

APLAXAR May 08, 2006 04:44 PM

Have you all ever thought of petitioning the Kingsnake.com staff to set up a hybrid section of the classifieds? i mean since they cant really be classified as anything but hybrids. i am not trying to start a comotion but i know there can be dishonesty in that practice by certin individuals, atleast with a hybrid section everything that should be in there would be in there, and i know that there is always going to be dishonesty about everything whether hybrid or "pure" because that is human nature. i was just curious if you all have ever thought about a classifieds section just for hybrids. thanks for you time.

Well Hybrid sections would be fine with me, I'm not going to make a big deal with kingsnake though about getting the proper catagories set up as I don't think they will want to do it.

However to put this in prespective just because they are a hybrid doesn't diminish where their individual genetic backgrounds come from such as a hybrid kingsnake is still part kingsnake. If this wasn't the case we wouldn't be using the X to segragate between the individual species lineages within the crossbreeding.

Yep, that's the same response a few folks got the last time we tried to ask for it.
Oh well, there are other places!

I don’t see it being required. I think the main thing that we all stress as the unwritten law of the trade/hobby is honestly represented animals of every category. I think the breeders who are super serious about their lines rarely buy stock from the classifieds unless they recognize the seller and know them to be working with what they have an interest in. Most of these same familiar names regularly swap stock and they have a pretty good idea whose lines are from who. It is part of the intrigue to carry on the lines of the founding breeders. When you are dealing with an obvious looking hybrid, it is kinda moot- we can all see it is a hybrid. Those into producing the next oddball thing (not meant to knock it) basically want to know “what is it het for?” and figure out what might mathematically pop up in their experiment. When some undesireable “normal” looking things pop up, then there is the thought they would be sold off as the thing they most closely resemble to the more unsuspecting (and maybe uncaring- as in not a serious breeder) snake buyer. A serious breeder bringing in some mystery thing that only seems right might find out after investing a couple or four years he has been duped, and learn the hard way to buy from somebody you trust. Then I guess the little “surprise” ends up in the classifieds as a “hybrid!” Buyer beware!

Lol I initially thought real snake. I thought what an amazing green.

I think it would be a great idea. But then to be fair, a lot of people selling species that are accepted as pure must sell their hybrids on that forum.

I know for a fact that several morphs that are accepeted as pure are actually hybrids. Take the creamsicle corn for example. To make sure that creamsicle "corns" (ahem) are posted in the proper forum (something that KS TOS requires)there may be some problems that the KS staff does not want to enconter.

yeah that definatly is true, no arguement there.

I think ks doesn't want to be swamped with emails saying so-and-so's ad belongs on the hybrid classifieds because "they are obvious hybrids".
