GTP Just laid eggs, need some help

PEPPERQUILL1 May 08, 2006 06:25 PM

Hi,
One of my female GTP's laid unexpectedly.I am not really a snake person so have no idea what I am doing. The female curled around them, incubating them.I do know weather to leave the eggs with her or incubate them myself.Any ideas?Any responses would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Um, how did you know she wasn't pregnant? Do you have a good incubator? If not, you might want to just let her self incubate them. If she's in good weight and health, the mothers do a good job of it. Do you have Greg Maxwell's book? He outlines all the info that you need on incubating. You might check out his site for help as well www.finegtps.com Other breeders on here might be able to give you further advice.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice.I just got her on trade and she went into a wooden box I had in the cage and laid to my suprise.I have some chameleon incubators but none set up for GTP'S.She is in very good health so I guess I'll leave them with her.Any idea's on how to keep humidity up?
Thanks for your info

I know a lot of people have draped a wet towel in the enclosure to keep up the humidity. The egg box should be dry. You don't want the eggs sitting in water. Check out the other forums and the Chondro forum has lots of breeders on there. I'm not experienced with breeding chondros (yet) but there are a lot of breeders on there as well as some very good threads about self incubation. http://p072.ezboard.com/fchondroforumfrm1
