yea i saw it at the petshop and thought they might be a good idea. Kinda pricey! Our leos are on slate tile and that is what im going to do with the beardie as well just dont know if i want to do it now or wait a while!

Huh come you say good for younger ones but not older guys?

Doesn't the tile get cold at night? I was thinking of doing that. Does it matter what kind of tile it is?

Thanks,

Not in our geckos enclosure! Stays the same temp as the house. as long as its not on the floor you should be ok! As long as you use a some what rough textured (slate tile) is the best. Slate tile is more of real rock tile. It really does look nice and its an awesome heat conductor!

i use ceramic tile, its got a gloss to it but enough texture for dragons to get traction on. works wonderfuly. easy to remove a peice when needing to be clean, thourough cleaning once-twice a month with water/bleach, and heats up under heat lamp. mine does not get cold for the dragons since my set ups are all in a bedroom "my dragon room" and the temps dont drop below 75 in the room. porcelin tile, ceramic, and slate all work well.

some people use layers of newspaper or paper towels for hatchling beardies. the most commonly used substrate for adult beardies is sand. tht what i used for my beadies

beachbeardies May 10, 2006 09:40 AM

washed playsand is what i used for along time, but i got tired of it. i have a dragon room and it just filled the room with dust constantly, not to mention sand can cause compaction and eye problems. although i have never experienced these problems myself, it can happen. i switched to tile and am very happy with it. its cleaner, nicer looking, and cheaper in the long run.
