Help Please...What are the bumps on my..

I recently was given a water dog (about 12 inches in length [i didn't know they got that big])....I've had him for about 3 weeks now, and I've noticed that he's developed little bumps on his body. They are on his tail, head, hands, back, and on his stomach. I wanted to know what these were and if possible, how to treat them. I used to have a softshell turtle that developed similar things, and it ended up dying. Please help me before I lose my precious water dog...
