still worried about my baby

mkco79 May 08, 2006 11:13 PM

ok every day or so I try to convince my baby gecko to eat crickets i worry that she isint getting enough nutrients with just mealworms and wax worms. she eats lots of worms and once a week I dip them in fruit or veggie baby food and she really likes mango and squash ( I know leos are carnivores, but she loves it) she seems to be steadily growing but I am still worried. (this is my first baby and like most new moms I'm probably overreacting) but if any one has ideas for getting her to eat crix please let me know i cant think of anything else. thanks
wendy

I dont know about the baby food? It seems like you would be better off gut loading the meal worms.
I have heard that wax worms are fatty, and some will argue that meal worms are not a good idea to feed all the time. I know plenty of breeders and experienced keepers that only feed mealworms. Also there are no studies to prove that mealies are an isufficient diet- just personal opinion. * if there are studies please point me in the right direction*

Wendy, by the looks of the pic, I'd say the baby was doin' fine . Many on here are strictly mealworm feeders, although mine won't give em a second look, and seem to have no problems keeping their lizards healthy. I HAVE heard that wax worms aren't the best thing to feed on a regular basis though. They add the weight to them, but are addicting. we wouldn't want any lil junkie leos runnin' round now would we . Seriously, I think your doin' a fine job. Just keep trying the crickets and eventually she may just decide it's time. Good luck.
