adult ball feeding questions ANY TAKERS

XtremeXteriors May 09, 2006 08:01 AM

I have heard of females slugging out if they become overweight,do people cut the frequency of food given to adult females and males like from a large rat every week to every 2 weeks to prevent obesity, does obesity also effect the males ability to breed if he to is overweight.is there a certain time a year when extra food is pushed to gain weight and does the winter fast make up for the excess gain in weight for those who feed weekly. any help as always is appreciated

I have never had a female ball get too fat to actually prevent sperm from swimming up far enough into the oviducts......

until this year....

I had one female throw 6 good and 5 duds.......probably one oviduct had sperm and one had none......

she was fed rats ,mice and syrian hamsters......also she ate at least 3 guinea pigs........she had alot of food for the entire summer......

I usually feed heavy but the hamsters and guinea pigs are fattening and I won't use them again as much..

rats are good once a week.....medium to small rats.......all year if possible.........should be ok

males will make sperm even if they are fat......just like humans........

the female is where the sperm must travel into the body for a few feet........and if too too fat the travel will be impeded...

I have found that over weight females tend to lay more slugs than others and a male that is over weight is a little lazy when it comes to breeding as well. I personaly feed all of my balls small-med rats and no larger this helps on a few things, One is that they tend to digest a smaller meal better and put on weight faster with a few smaller meals more often than just with a large one, I have also found that a female will feed a little longer when holding due to the size of the prey Since there is little room for it, And If they get a little chunky I can cut dowm on how often I feed them but still ofer them food weekly. Hope this helps.
Thanks Erick
