GREEN TREE DRAGON IDENTIFICATION

tra3 May 09, 2006 01:03 PM

First, thanks to all of you for helping me. A reptile dealer/breeder has identified him as a mountain horn dragon. Do you all agree? His crest is not as long as my others, and his chin is a little different, but his face and body and mannerisms are similar. He is as green as green can be. Below is an enlargement of his head.

I have a young capra that's quite green. Here's something to compare with.

Thanks for the pic. When I looked in the tank this am, my "green tree dragon" was completely brown. So I turned off the heat lamp, and he instantly turned green again. right before my eyes. it was soooo cool. I keep the lamp on at night, because it is still cool in this part of the country at night. Day is fine, so I turn it off. Do you think they will stay green? I sure do hope so.

By the way, do you incubate eggs, and at what humidity level? How soon after they are incubated do you know if they will survive? I am about to lose my first. It started caving in last night.

Is the substrate moist enough? If not the eggs will collapse from lack of moisture and adding a little moisture will plump them back up.

If they are bad and collapse they will also turn nasty colors and get slimy! : (

I have actually had some go for almost the full term and be infertile, not sign of ever having had an embryo. Others will turn in just a few days or within a week of having been laid.

I can't speak for Bonnie, but I know she used my suggestions and I use about 50% humidity in the box. When I prepare the substrate for the eggs I mix 50/50 water and substrate by weight not by volume.

I have one collapsed egg. My humidy gage, in the substrate with the eggs reads 70 percent, which is high. The temp is 68-70. I need to lower the humidy, right? But how? Leave the lid off if it is nice and warm? Your advise is greatly appreciated (I am a new lizard grandma, he he)

Us grammas gotta stick together.
I do follow Marcia's care sheet. Mine are in pearlite which I add a bit of water to when the humidity drops to low. It fluctuates between 50 and 60. I've also had eggs begin to collapes but puff up when water is added. Right now I have 3 eggs that I believe are infertile but they still look good so I'm keeping them. You never know. I've only hatched one clutch so I am far from an expert. Instead of leaving the lid completly off try just off a bit. This hopefully will help keep the temps proper. My incubator is square so I put the lid on about a quarter turn wrong if to wet. (the corners aren't covered). Hope that makes sense. Also, my bad eggs smelled something awful before they collapsed.

Ditto on all of the above!

Hello Marcia and Bonnie.

My humidty is fine now. Princess is shedding! We just fed her three wax worms, which she gratefully took from my husband. Now I am going to give hear a good squirt with fresh spring water and let her digest her treat. She is a real nice dragon.
