genetics question

NUCCIZ_BOAS May 09, 2006 09:36 PM

here's the scenerio. I'm sure everybody is sick of hearing about my new girl, but I'm going to bring her up again. I have a 2003 Arabasque female, 100% het albino. I am breeding her this year, but I'm trying to decide which male I want to do the dirty deed. I have my choice between a few albino males, or I may throw an arabasque possible het male at her.

My question is, has anybody proven the arabasque x arabasque breeding to produce a possible super? Also, what would the litter look like? Would it be all arabasques, or would it be mixed? I think the closest comparison I could make at this point would be to compare it to hypos, but I'm not 100% sure, any opinions/suggestions would help
Thanks all
Tony

I can't answer the "proven" question but a feew weeks back I did request similar details on alll the morphs to put together a comprehensive document on the current morphs. Everything I got back indicated Arabesque is a dominant morph with no Codominant form proven. If that is true, then the outcome from your female Arabesque het albino would be:

crossed with albino male:
1/4 arabesque albino
1/4 arabesque het albino
1/4 albino
1/4 het albino

crossed with arabesque het albino male
3/16 arabesque albino (33% chance super)
9/16 arabesque (33% chance super) (67% chance het albino)
1/16 albino
3/16 normal (67% chance het albino)

Crossed with arabesque albino male:
3/8 albino arabesque (33% chance super)
3/8 arabesque het albino (33% chance super)
1/8 albino
1/8 normal het albino

arabasque x arabasque breeding.... explain how those numbers work. I've always just dealt with the "het" punnet squares. i.e. 50% pos, 66% pos, etc.

how do those numbers work?

Since Arabesque is a dominant trait, a animal that is het will show the trait, just like Salmon (hypo). So in your punnet square, anytime you show either one or two Arabesque genes in the offspring, it shows as Arabesque.

Standard square, one gene from mom, one gene from dad, if both were Arabesque (and I'm assuming only hets) then there are 4 possible outcomes:

Mom passes on Arabesque, Dad passes on Arabesque, baby is Homozygous Arabesque (Super Arabesque), looks Arabesque.

Mom passes on Arabesque, Dad passes on normal, baby is heterozygous Arabesque, looks Arabesque.

Mom passes on Normal, Dad passes on Arabesque, baby is heterozygous Arabesque, looks Arabesque.

Mom passes on Normal, Dad passes on normal, baby is and looks normal. (not an Arabesque)
