cool new hatchling rack

zach_whitman May 09, 2006 10:19 PM

I just finished building the new hatchling racks I am going to be using this year. Tell me what you think.

Each tub is 12 long, 3 wide, and 2 high. There is a groove in the along the back of each shelf housing a heat rope. Thats right BELLY HEAT! they maintain about a 10 - 16 degree gradient.

Holds 20 hatchlings in just over one cubic foot!

Pretty Sweet. How long would you hose a hatchling in there?

Its only meant to hold them for a few months before they are sold. 4 months tops for most colubrids. Although for small stuff like anthill pythons, syspilla, kenyan sand boas, etc. it could last much longer. Basically I just built it to replace deli sups cuz I hate the dam things!

The heat rope is tough to get a picture of because of the back on the cage. The next one that I assemble I will take some pics before I complete it.

Basically I routered a groove that is the exact size of the heat rope I'm using. So that when pressed inside it fits very snuggly. The sides have the same groove as the shelves, and the heat rope just snakes down the inside of the rack about 2 inches from the rear of each shelf.
