Wasn't sure where to post this but figured that I'd try here. First of all this isn't a joke post, although it sounds like one
Yesterday I was in my local pet store buying Crickets for my Gecko. Large tattooed guy in front of me had a batch of feeder mice on the counter. Being a snake fanatic, I commented on the mice and asked him what he had? He proudly announced that he had a very rare Rattlesnake-Python hybrid that would only eat live prey. Hmmm? Said that she was quite a pig and ate 16 at one feeding! I asked him if he had thought of moving up to rats and he said he couldn't because her head was too small, apparently due to the Rattlesnake breeding. Also said that he coudn't handle the snake much because of her being part Rattlesnake. I never did get to ask him if this hybrid was venomous etc and thought the whole encounter pretty odd.
I did a Google search, looked around here and did see some stuff on hybrids but nothng like the one he claims to own. Is this even possible? I know they are two completely different classes of snakes so I'm doubtful but don't know much about genetics-snake biology etc. I'm wondering if he got ripped off big time? He did say she came from some lab but that was about it. I'm really, really curious and was thinking of calling my local herp society{CT} but thought I'd try here first because I love reading this forum. Any feedback would be great. I don't own venomous and never will but they fascinate me and I'm always interested in learning more. Thanks Tara
