Ok, I know that I might sound like an uneducated goof, but snakes can only shed one coat of skin at a time, right?? 'I've been looking after my friend's kingsnake for the weekend, and my friend and I both thought that he was extremely sick. He's been in shed for about a week or so, but he wasn't making any progress and we thought that he was starting to look dehydrated and that there was something wrong with his mouth....anyway, today I soaked him in warm water and started to help him shed. It was a very hard shed, with certain sections or only belly scales coming off at a time--no neat, clean sleeve. I finally picked off his entire body and then got to the head. Finally, I gently uncovered his head (He could see again--whohoo!), and I found that I had to keep peeling. I swear, I peeled another shed off of him, except this one came off nice and clean. Is this common in snakes?? This is the 'sickly' king that I have mentioned in other posts btw, and now after I shed him he looks as good as new. I hope that it stays that way. Also, he has not had a meal in quite sometime....when can I safely offer him a pink? Thanks, and I hope that all goes well from here on out.
