Some Hog isl. boas in the wild

Jonathan-m May 10, 2006 02:10 PM

I found this site that is dedicated to studying the life on and around the Cayos los Cochinos off the honduran coast. I was surprised to find some nice pictures of wild Hogs that were captured for their scientific study ( in one picture it looks like maybe they are implanting a tracking device). on the last page in the photo gallery there is also a shot of two people holding a pretty good size wild Hog and of one hanging in a tree.I posted this on another forum and one of the members, Aleesha, sent an e-mail to this group asking about the population growth of boas on the island, she recieved a reply back that said as of last years population servey they believe there to be anywhere from 2000-5000 boas on the larger and smaller islands.
they say that the population recovery is due to legal regulations they have on the protected parts of the islands and their patroling programs.

I couldn't get the link to work, but that pretty interesting information, thanks for sharing. I have always wondered what the status on them in the wild was, and if they still look simular to the ones produced in captivity, since there really hasn't been any fresh bloodlines (with an exception of a few) in the states for a while. Any more info on this subject would be great to see and or read...Thanks for sharing....
