Two observant strangers saved a south Richland house from burning to the ground Monday afternoon.
But Ernie Crediford's home at 1422 Florida Ave. in the Richland Y area still suffered substantial fire and smoke damage and he lost two cats, Richland fire officials said.

The Richland Fire Department did not know the cause of the blaze Monday, Hempstead said, but Crediford guessed the fire was caused by a lamp that heated his pet turtle's aquarium. He got the turtle, named Toby, from his nephew in Seattle last weekend.
