Eastern hogs hatching!

Conrad Jul 30, 2003 08:20 PM

Well, of the 30 eggs I got from a WC female melanistic eastern hognose, 9 went full term and 7 are currently hatching. The surprise is the amount REDS that appear to be hatching out of those 7. One or two have little or no red. About 3 have moderate amounts of red, and I have two that are nearly red from head to tail! I can't wait untill these guys shed and I can see the extent of the colors. Just wanted to get you all up to date on my clutch.

Just remember that some that are brick red as hatching can turn melanistic as they grow older. Congratulations though, and good luck with getting them all eating! Andy

They've all gone into or have completely shed now. And I've gotten a couple to eat already, just depends on the toads right now. Once they get feeding well, I don't think I'll have problems in converting them. Thanks.
