Ghost Boa Availablity???

shedthegear May 10, 2006 06:55 PM

I have an awesome '04 Male Salmon (33% possible Super)100% Het Anery (DH Ghost) that I got from ClassReptilia. He's a little less than 4ft right now and I hope to get him up to about 5'+ by Sept/Oct.

If I can get him up to size I would love to purchase either a Poss Super or Super Ghost Female for him to breed this season.

Question: What are my chances of finding someone who would be willing to part with an '03 Female Ghost later this year?

Thanks

Maybe I'm just having a brain fart, but how would you get a 33% chance super salmon?

I am sure that the breeding that his came from was a d-het to a d-het. That would make 1/3 of the salmons supers, making his snake a 33% super salmon. It was just an unusual way to say it.

Not sure why it would be 33 percent?

het x het yields

25% homozygous
50% het
25% normal

Since Salmon is dominant, the first two outcomes would be Salmons. So, 1/3 of the Salmons would be supers 25/(25 plus 50)

Since when does 50 25 = 1/3?

rainbowsrus May 11, 2006 10:55 AM

simple percentage calculation, part over the whole equals percentage.

25% super / (25% super plus 50% normal)
assuming 100 babies for simplicity
25 / (25 plus 50)
25 / 75
1 / 3 = 33%

For a dominant gentic morph, the het x het outcome can be shown two different ways.

Genotypes (specific genetic makeup)
25% Homozygous
50% Heterozygous
25% normal or wild type

Phenotypes (visual look of babies)
75% Morph (in this case Salmon)
25% normal

A slightly different way to look at it.
25% of the litter are super salmons.
33% of the salmons are super salmon.

I think you will be able to find one! Someone will need money for rats, car repair, or a engagement ring etc... You will just have to be ready with cash in hand when one does come up for sale! Good Luck!!!
