Many adventures of a back yard

CaptainHook2 May 11, 2006 12:39 AM

Here's a pic of Bruno with, I believe, a ribbon snake I found in the back yard. It's been a long time since I've seen any snake in the wild. Bruno tried to play with it but I made him stop so he didn't hurt it. He sat there and flinched every time it would strike but his fur is so thick. and the snake so small, he didn't realize he was being bitten. I happened to catch this shot.

Definitely a garter snake but a funny pic nonetheless (a ribbon snake lacks those dark side spots/blotches, is much more slender and clean looking, and typically doesn't mouth gape)....thanks for posting.

In this pic the snake was not keeping it's mouth open, I happened to snap the shot at just the right time as it was striking. It tried so many times I had ample opportunity to catch a shot like this. I also forgot how bad they smell as well as the way they poop on you.

Is the ribbon snake an off shoot of the garter? I always understood they were very similar. Either way it ways cool to find one in the back yard.
