Problems with our Uro!

vatecbound May 11, 2006 03:07 PM

Hello,

We have had a Uro for about 3 months. It eats well, its digestive system seems to be working properly based on regular bowel (Sp?_sorry) movements. The only problem that I have noticed is that he seems to be accumulating some white stuff on the tip of his nose, mouth, and a little under his eyes. Its like a crystal looking color. It keeps building up. We take him out and bath him in warm water for a few minutes every few weeks and it goes away, but it builds back up. Does anyone know what this build up is? it cant just be the sand because it doesnt just blow off or rub off. Does anyone know what this could be? could the humidity be too high, or the temp too low. He gets a consistent 125 or more when the lights are on. the humidity usually sits around 40 or 50, sometimes as low as 35.

thank you so much for your help

we are worried and the next step is to take him to the vet.

Those deposits are salt. It's natural and not harmful. It can be easily removed with a wet q-tip. I would have to say though that 'in my opinion' your humidity levels are high which may or may not ultimately lead to respitory problems for your Uro's.
