poor Darwin never really got all the shed from his left eye last shed. He got misted, bathed, etc. Well, his head is shedding again in patches and his eye has quite a bit of skin still on it. He is very good about letting my "massage" his eyelid after being misted with warm water - but to no avail.

I have some erythromycin ophthalmic ointment for an old slight eye infection - can I just put this on? Obviously misting will dry and my thinking is that this stuff will keep the skin moist and maybe he will have better luck getting it off. He does not have any infection or external irritation. I know antibiotics used internally when there is no bacteria can be dangerous (cause flora/fauna imbalance) but since this is external I am thinking it is OK. Anywhere else on his body I would use jojoba oil, but would rather use something specifically ophthalmic around the ye area - thanks!
