male tiger needs help

helicopter99 May 11, 2006 06:58 PM

Help, I have an 00 male tiger who is about 13 feet and about
as thick as a bat. His skin seems to be deteriorating. What
I mean by that is it is like a wet paper towel and he rips it
when he moves and stresses the outer skin. He has about 5 holes
in him which range in size from pencil eraser to penny size.
All are on the sides and on the last 1/3 on his body starting
right after the lungs. Eats fine cage temp 85-87 humid at 76%
rihgt now. Cage is cleaned regulary and has water. I have pics
I just don't know how to get them on this posting. I have e-mailed them to a few people whom I respect and they have never seen anything like it.????????????????????????

Thanks in advance

I sure someone in here could tell you what it is, but i do think if that is happening to your tiger you should get him to a vet ASPA.

Jeez, this is heartbreaking. Derek's right, you need to get him to a vet immediately. It could be some form of bacterial infection causing necrosis of the skin, or perhaps a nutritional deficiency and maybe burn areas. Just get him to a vet and in the meantime get triple antibiotic salve on the open wounds so that they don't become more infected.

Best of luck to you and to your guy. If you have any other snakes I would automatically consider him as in quarantine just in case it's a contagious condition.

You sent me pics. of him about a week ago, and look what's in the July issue or Reptiles Mag. a pic of a retic with what looks like the same skin tares. Check out the magazine and I would take a trip to the vet too if you haven't already.
