Time and luck will tell, but I see multiple trips for multiple species. Dang, that rain we got soaked down and is all used up!

I hope to be there sometime between the 20th of June and the 1st of July but I really don't know at this point. I got a lot of grief from my wife when I tried talking to her about it. I wont be going without her blessing, that's for sure.

Brad, you need to take control of the situation asap.. Be firm and don't take no for an answer. Speak your mind ................then run. lol

Well, she didn't say no per-say, she was only clear about not having any appreciation of the idea LOL. I get to do a lot, so I have be careful not to take advantage. Still, the more I think about it, the more I really want to go. If only there was something for my family to do out there too.

Luckily my wife doesn't care if I go. It was all worked out before we got married. Since it was something I did before we got married it was agreed upon that she would not give me a hard time about it. So far eleven years without her saying to stay home. LOL.

Wish I had done that but as she takes frequent trips to Austin and San Antonio to visit her kids, I am in the clear. Plus she likes the outdoors but is bored with night cruising. So I am able to go with no flack. But this is a heck of a trip almost no matter where you launch from!!! LOL!

Rock on Steve!!! Everyone needs wives like ours. Just had our 12th! Mine goes collecting without me sometimes, and even catches alterna that I cannot. ie. River Road (stop laughing) You must train them right from the very beginning. Steve, you have made a good point. All of you out there that let your wives call this shot for you,.......well, I better bow out now! It could get rough. Dudes, get your as*** out West!!!! There's plenty for the family to do! That's what malls and swimming pools are for!

My wife is about as understanding as you can get. She even lets me go collecting with Assetto. lol

I like to go with Wayne as I love West Texas. It is a little harder now with small children (our boys are 3 and 6), but it can be done. Our kids love the pool at the Motel 6 in Del Rio and love to go to Acuna. Plenty of shopping there! The mall is OK in Del Rio for a little entertainment although there isn't much to it. There is a little book swap store in one of the strip centers and of course, there is always Wal-Mart! (LOL!!!) I just like getting out of Houston for a weekend and visiting with the other herpers.

A wives and kids club could be a very good idea! We wives could sit around the pool and drink and chat and watch our kids splash until their hearts content. (This is while the husbands sleep in peace and quiet in the nice air conditioned rooms!)

Our kids usually stay awake for a little while in the van, then we lay there seats back and they crash. I can stay awake for a little while, but since I don't usually get a nap because I am watching the kids in the afternoon, I usually lay my seat back and get in a sleep if nothing is crawling.

An afternoon seeing the cave drawings at Seminole Canyon, a photo op at the Pecos River bridge or touring the Judge Roy Bean Visitor center in Langtry are all other great things to do out there.

I miss the Lajitas on the Rio Grande of the old days. I stayed there by myself for a week in 1997 for under $50 a night, but now us regular folks can't afford it. What was cool about that place was that everything you needed was right there. Go to the restaurant and eat breakfast and drink coffee, swim awhile, go to Paso Lajitas for lunch, enjoy the beautiful view of the River Road, hike Closed Canyon, go to Big Bend and hike the Window trail, go to Terlingua and La Kiva for drinks, take a interpretive horseback ride into the hills outside Lajitas, stroll the gift shops, sleep in the nice rooms and of course, have an evening dinner picnic at the TeePees and be ready to go for a night of road cruising. I even collected nice flat rocks and painted West Texas scenes on them For souvineers for the folks back home. (Got this idea from the Terlingua Trading Post which was selling them for like $15.00.)

So really there is plenty to do if you look around.

Looking forward to 2006 Herping Season even with gas at astronomical prices.

Hello Mrs. Howell. It's nice to see that you enjoy herping with Wayne. Fortunately my wife doesn't mind the animals in the house but that's where she draws the line. Actually she has gone to many herp shows with me too. Collecting is up in the air though. I think I can get her to west texas some day but it would be a fear of being bored that would sink the ship. I think if the nights are eventful she would actually stay interested. I'll have to talk to her about a future trip, possibly next year. For now my son and I will be down at the end of june after his school year ends. Keep up the good work out there. I see you have quite an eye for alterna. Take care.

staying anywere close to Wayne Howell. He brakes down all the Time LOL....Nothing wrong with bringing the old lady if she is into herps or doesn't mind staying in the room if you are out all night.Just don't cut the night off at 2:00 a.m cause Tina is tired (Dave LOL....)AND TURN IN ONLY TO STARE AT THE WALLS WHEN YOU HAVE DRIVEN TWO DAYS TO GET THERE AND WAITED A WHOLE YEAR FOR THIS.

Bring them out there and let them all get together to do their own things.

I know it will never actually work, but it would be nice.
