cinnamon question????

evercraig190 May 12, 2006 02:09 AM

Ok i saw someone had some super cinnys or super pastel cinnamons (not too sure), which i think were dark solid grey in color and looked awesome...but my question is to know whether the cinnamon genes are recessive or dominate...and what does it take to get that dark grey/blue solid ball python...thanks...

Cinnamons are co-dom. To get the super cinny you'd breed two Cinnamons together. That is the dark grey/black/brownish snake you see.

Someone will be sure to correct me if I'm wrong.

Right.

The gray/black super cinnamon is homozygous for the cinnamon gene (two copies, one from each parent). The heterozygous cinnamon (got the cinnamon gene from one parent and the normal version of that gene from the other) has the cinnamon pattern and color. This situation here the hets are a visible morph and the homozygous mutant are a different visible morph is classified as a co-dominant gene.

So i guess i need at least a one cinnamon to get to the super right?..im thinking of possibly starting a cinnamon project in the near future...

Cinnamon X Cinnamon = Super Cinnamon

Pastel Jungle X Cinnamon = Pewter

Pewter X Cinnamon = Silver Bullet

Hope this helps.

Just for fun here...

if you use a killer bee (or maybe just a bumblebee) instead of a pastel jungle then later in the equation bred that to a super cinnamon, would you theoretically wind up with black widow spiders? lol.
