breeding frenzy (part 2)...

jfirneno May 12, 2006 01:57 PM

Here's a picture of the little bugger in action. I couldn't tell if they were still locked up any more. But he still hasn't let go so maybe he is. Either that or he's developed a taste for his own hide. Hope he doesn't take it into his head head to swallow himself. That would be embarrassing for all concerned

John, good luck with those. Very interesting snake. You've bred those before, correct? Keep us posted on how that turns out. BTW, how long did they brumate for? That guy sure has it bad..LOL.

PS: I'm off to the U.P. in a couple hours (fox snake country). It's cold and rainy this weekend though. Later...

Hi Terry:

Yes these guys are veterans. I brumated them from end of October to March 15th. Yeah, he's kind of manic this year. Enjoy your trip. It's cold and rainy here too. And if the weatherman is to be believed it will be that way for at least another week. Luckily that is the perfect weather to inspire my snakes to romance.

Adios
John

Thanks, John. Yeah, you never know with this weather. Last night, with 48*F, cloudy, rainy, windy, and I still saw three gravid garters under our tin in the yard and five sps. of frogs/toad in the pond. It's the time of year anything might happen, and, of course, the herps need to breed...heheh. Later...

Hey, John,

Both my Easterns and Westerns do the same thing.
Once they get going, they bite anything that looks approachable.

One of my male Easterns, once arroused, would engage a garden hose if he could.

Mine are very bitey too, but this is the first time he's bitten into himself and held on during his work. Maybe he's getting old and needed something to keep himself excited. Or maybe he's just dumb.

Best regards
John
