croc monitor ?

varanuskaouthia May 12, 2006 02:53 PM

ive had 2 crocs in the past, one cb about 18" stv and 1 fresh import of about the same size. both had typical croc attitudes. i only had them for a short period of time (2-3 months) im getting another on tuesday he is about 2 years old and cb he is about 4-4.5' long he was handled as a baby, but not at all for the past year or so, my ? is for any of you people that have or have had crocs what is the best way to go about getting him relativly tame.. and before anyone tells me i know he is a croc and i know what they are capeable of, i have alot of respect for them and use caution when handling. i plan on keeping him for a long time, but i want to try to get him as calm as possible. any tips would be great
ill post pics when i get him
and i will post pics of my pair of melinus
thanks jeremy
also ive been keeping monitors for 11 years now so i can take care of him tame or not...

i understand, but me being me i cant, i like to try to eventually interact phyically with any animal i have. the import croc i had after a little over a month i could reach in and rub his back, without much of a problem.
thanks for not jumping all over me like some people.

If you are such an accomplished monitor keeper, why did you get rid of the last TWO??? Why should we believe that you will keep this one?

These animals are not toys or novelty items. Maybe leopard geckos are more inline with your abilities?

leopard geckos.. i have been keeping monitors for the last 11 years and other reptiles even leopard geckos. if its any of your buisness orinoco i got them in on a trade because at that time (about 2 years ago) i bought sold and traded many reptiles
its what i did for a living. now i just keep a select few for my own personal collection,i dont do the reptile thing for money any more i do it cause i love them and whant to give them the best care as possible, i only keep a very small collection now(5 animals tops) So orinoco dont talk about my abilitys. ive handled everything from croc moniters to king cobras and i think im doing just fine,if you dont want to answer my ? thats just fine, i can take care of croc monitors with no prob, calm or not but was just interested if there are any methods people that like i said have delt with them longer than i have used to calm them down.. also my melinus pair is doing great if your interestd orinoco
sorry to anybody thae misinterpreted my intentions
