Breeders in Az?

SandmanDI May 12, 2006 06:56 PM

Hi everyone I am new to the forum. I don't have any beardies yet but I am looking. I am trying to do it right by getting everything ready way before I buy one, or two! I am looking for anyone who has any good plans for building your own cage? Something not too expensive and easy enough. I was also looking for a breeder in Az or maybe So Cal? I really want to create a relationship with whoever we buy our beardies from, just in case we ever need any help, and so we can continue the business with them!! Well thank you all very much!! There is so much help to be found on this forum and I hope someone will help me start a very exciting experience!! Thanks!!

Building a bearded dragon is fairly simple, it really all depends on your own carpentry skills. A basic bearded dragon cage is basicaly a retangular box with a hinged door at the front with screen, glass or plexi glass so you can see it on the front. My bearded dragon cage I basically drew out on paper, including measurements and had a family friend build it for me. He did a few things I wouldn't have been able to do, mostly because I didn't think of them and even if I did, don't have the tools. It cost me about $100 CDN to have my cage built, mostly due to material cost and the cost of a 40 oz of rye which was the only form of payment the family friend would accept.

I dont have the plans anymore, as he kept them LOL but basically just drew a retangle and figured out the final size I wanted everything. If you have absolutely no experience building stuff, might be a better ideal to ask a friend or relative who is carpentry inclined to help you out.

However, for a baby dragon or young one, you don't need a big cage right away, a 20 or 35 gal long tank will do you till the dragon is 14-15" long and roughly 6-8 months old, depending on size of tank you start off with and speed your dragon grows.

The kingsnake classifieds have all kinds of bearded dragons for sale, several from breeders in California and Arizonia. As we are coming into the summer, more and more breeders will have dragon babies available.
