Eggs situation

mchiara May 12, 2006 08:05 PM

One of Sunshine's (C. C. Calyptratus) first clutch looks pretty bad. It is with anohter egg that I thought they were both going to mold. They are hanging in there, just have to clean a tiny layer of mold every few weeks. One of these 2 has srinked and has few wet spots. They are 4 1/2 months into incubation and I believe it is way too early to hatch (also because it has some mold) and I believe I may have to go to the eye doctor since I start looking at that eggs closely tonight because I thougth I saw some trembling movement...Can anyone confirm me what is going on? Is this simply mold and dying eggs? Do they get that appearance (wet) when they mold? PS: When I moved from the other eggs I made a even dryer vermiculite.

Thanks.

You said.."I believe I may have to go to the eye doctor since I start looking at that eggs closely tonight because I thougth I saw some trembling movement"...I have seen eggs tremble/move/rock when they are going to hatch.

You said..."One of these 2 has srinked and has few wet spots. They are 4 1/2 months into incubation and I believe it is way too early to hatch"..it does seem early for them to hatch, but shrinking and sweating are signs of a chameleon egg getting ready to hatch.

Hope that in a few days you will have hatchlings! The eggs should split in an X on one end and the baby should stick its head out. It will likely lay there for a while looking quite dead while it absorbs the yolk. It should get out of the egg within a day or so on its own.

thanks,

if this is what is going on, when should I see the X split in the egg? I was looking at it this morning and all is now quiet. Guess I just have to wait and see....

thanks.

After friday night I haven't seen it "rocking" anymore. Maybe the mold in putting the baby under stress and it may try to get out early. The incubation temps never went above 81

Keep you posted.
